International partnership between Mediadesign University and Holocaust Museum
The Mediadesign University (MD.H) from Berlin and the non-profit organization SHAMIR in Riga conceive in the context of their new partnership, the development of a multimedia exhibition about the crimes of the Nazi regime against Latvian Jews.

For the "Holocaust Museum" in Riga, MD.H and SHAMIR are jointly developing concepts for an interactive exhibition. The main focus is on the artistic development and technical implementation of historical art installations.

The Mediadesign University is honored to play an expert role in the development of such an important international exhibition. Above all, we as German designers* in Latvia would like to make an important contribution to coming to terms with the dark Nazi history.

"This is not a museum of death. This is a museum of life!"

Over 70,000 Latvian Jews fell victim to the Holocaust. Another 25,000 Jews from all over Europe were deported to Riga to be murdered. However, "this place is not only to commemorate the terrible events, but also to be an educational and cultural center, a source of tolerance and mutual respect. This is not a museum of death. This is a museum of life," says the SHAMIR Society.

Numerous people from all over the world travel to the Holocaust Museum every year to visit the places where their ancestors once lived. The museum building has several permanent exhibitions. They are not only about the Nazi crimes, but also about the formative role of Latvian Jews in education and culture.

About the partners

The SHAMIR Society is a non-profit association whose goal is to preserve the memory of Latvian Jews and research their history during the Holocaust. In addition to develop the museum in Riga, the association publishes books, organizes concerts or commemorative events.

The Latvian Parliament recently passed a law on compensation for the Jewish community. This new law provides a payment of about 40 million euros. In this way, the culture of remembrance can be kept alive, e.g. through art and cultural projects.

The MD.H has been offering design courses for more than 30 years and educates young people in the fields of games, film, media, fashion, and management.
